Pyrenean Dogs
('Labrit' and 'Pyrenean Mountain')
The dogs on the 'FermeConservatoire' do a lot of work with the sheep, with several dogs at work at any
given time. We are very fond of our regional breeds : there is the long-haired and the short-haired
type and, with a character that is not always easy-going, after training they make excellent
sheepdogs. Without them, it would be impossible to use the old herdsmen's methods when taking
sheep along roads and byways.
When a flock stays staying out a long way from the farm, they are watched
over by a Pyrenean mountain dog called 'Pastou' by shepheards. Such dogs have a special character
and particular habits : they stick close to their flocksand rarely sit with their masters,
remaining permanently amongst the sheep and providing an effective defence.
